Three Weeks in May - Youth Interest

It's good to see youth taking an interest in politics. Stereotypically you may not expect young folk getting engaged with politics. My GCSE politics and government classes from 1986-1988 were notably small in a comprehensive of well over a 1,000 pupils. These lads from Sir William Stanier school asked for a shot as I took pics of Liz Dawn helping out Tamsin Dunwoody. Whether or not it was the celebrity factor at work here, it was pleasing they were taking an interest.

Three Weeks in May - Tactics Questions

Questions were raised over tactics. Use of discriminatory class labelling and personal insults? Relying on a family name or individual merit? That's what Nick Robinson from the BBC was putting to Labour candidate Tamsin Dunwoody and then Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith. The leaflet he's holding out says "Do you want a tory con man or a Dunwoody?"

Three Weeks in May - Sign Robbers

Do you remember the night when loads of signs at the front of folks' houses went missing? All across Crewe and Nantwich there were reports that signs had been broken up, or just plain vanished. Who was behind it? Was it one group of party activists seeking to lessen the promotion of other parties. Or was it one party removing their signs with a view to making it look like a competing party was doing dirty tricks. If it was, it wasn't the only time questions may have been raised over tactics...

Three Weeks in May - Liz and Tamsin

The Crewe and Nantwich by-election was blessed with lovely weather, and Liz Dawn's (from Coronation Street) visit was on a marvellous sunny warm May day. A good sized group of people clustered around the Market Centre entrance, enjoyed the celebrity factor which the campaign was bringing to Crewe. Before Liz and Tamsin went off to the actual Coronation Street in Crewe, I grabbed a number of photos and an autograph for my mum!

Three Weeks in May - BBC Newsnight

Besides Channel 4 News doing a live discussion, the other media event was that Jeremy Paxman was going to be in town (well, Crewe Hall if I recall correct) for a BBC Newsnight Special. Were you there? These flyers went up in a few places in town.
